Why Map of the Week exists
GIS is most powerful when it changes a decision. Not when it produces a deliverable — when it produces an answer that a spreadsheet couldn't. This series documents real projects and the spatial thinking behind them.
Each map highlights a specific technique — network analysis, hot spot detection, terrain interpretation, field data collection — and explains what the map was used for and what it revealed. The goal is to show, concretely, what utility and infrastructure GIS looks like in practice.
Maps are added weekly. Themes rotate across water, wastewater, gas, electric, stormwater, and cartography. If a problem looks familiar, that's the point.
No spam. One map, one note, once a week.
